The Cervantino International Festival will take place from October 12 to 30, 2022 and will be held in person to receive the audience of the Mexican Republic and the world. This year the festival, which has Korea as its guest country and Mexico City as its guest entity, will present 115 stage shows, with disciplines such as theater, dance, music, opera and 50 multidisciplinary and visual arts activities.

The festival of the spirit will have the participation of 34 countries: Germany, Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Denmark, Spain, United States of America, France, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Israel, Italy , Japan, Mexico, Mozambique, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, Serbia, Taiwan, Venezuela, Russia and the Ukraine, a sample of the artistic and cultural diversity of the world, showing that in Mexico and the FIC artists of any nationality and of any origin are welcome, since culture and art are universal.
The Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, said:
“This year, we are celebrating the reunion, this is the party of hope, of cultural rights, this is the party where we all meet, there is no culture that is not welcome in Mexico, all cultures from all countries. are welcome at this festival. Culture unites us, if we do not unite through cultural roots, how are we going to do it in a time of division of humanity? Culture is precisely going to give the example of how we can together dream of a different future”
In turn, the governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, said: "In Guanajuato we are sure that culture is a tool for social change, and in these 50 years the FIC has contributed to raising the quality of life of the Guanajuato residents promoting tourism and putting Guanajuato in the eyes of the world.”
The general rector of the University of Guanajuato, Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, announced the creation of the Cervantes Chair, which will include research, connection and artistic activities among its lines. The foregoing, within the framework of an effort to preserve the roots of the Cervantes Festival and, at the same time, promote its renewal.
In this edition, the festival will feature activities that go beyond the stage, such as the publication of a book commemorating the FIC's 50th anniversary, an exhibition at the Chapultepec Gates Open Gallery and the launch of a the National Lottery.
Within the commemorative activities, the radio series "Your voice counts", the audiovisual capsules "50 de Cervantes", the First Cervantes International Seminar in America "Los Quijotes de las Lenguas", Cervantina Chair, in addition to the reorganization and opening of the Cervantino collection.
In addition, this 50th anniversary is combined with the commemoration of 100 years of Mexican muralism, for which events alluding to this artistic trend are being prepared; the Guanajuato project is light and an interactive show by La Fura dels Baus, created especially for the FIC.
The public squares of Guanajuato are an essential part of the culture and the FIC through the integration of the public, so this year these spaces will be used with the presence of the Comedy Car of the UNAM Theater, Paolo Nani, the Rondalla Santa Fe de the University of Guanajuato, the Rondalla Señorial of the University of Guanajuato, the Danzonera Pegaso of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City, 100 years of Mexican muralism and Guanajuato is light, a light projection that celebrates the 50 years of Cervantino.
The film samples present proposals from the guests of honor. On behalf of CDMX, a sample of 15 films will arrive at the Old Courtyard of the Hospicio de la Santísima Trinidad, in the
University of Guanajuato, among which are: Xochimilco, alice beyond the abyss, Sin tantos panchos and Ciudad Merced. As for Korea, 26 film proposals will be screened in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, such as All roads lead Home, Sopyonje, The Host and Arirang; cycles are also shown. One hundred years of muralism in Mexico; Seeing and thinking about cinema: Felipe Cazals, master of Mexican cinema; y, FIC Incluyente.
Master classes will be given by the conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Gustaco Dudamel and Wynton Marsalis. Both will have an intimate atmosphere with dialogue and feedback on the music and artistic community.
For this edition of the FIC, the Colegio de San Ildefonso prepared a series of conferences related to the 100 years of muralism, among which are: David Alfaro Siqueiros; El espíritu de occidente o Los elementos, José Clemente Orozco. Cortés y la Malinche y otros, with the participation of Irene Herner and Jonatan Chávez; Fermín Revueltas. Alegoría a la Virgen de Guadalupe and Ramón Alva de la Canal, con Alberto Híjar y Elissa Rashkin, y Between social revolution and feminism: the artistic strategies of "modern" women, con Christina Híjar González.
As for literary presentations, it will be Aquí estuvo Caduro, a compilation of the work of the painter and muralist Rafael Caduro; Enrique Arturo Diemecke. Biography with music by Mahler, a book by José Ángel Leyva, and The City of Poems: Poetic Sampler of Mexico City, by the author Claudia Kerink.
Regarding the Social FIC, the Ruelas Project is eight years old and will conclude its first cycle of community theater workshops, for which work tables will be held; Memories of the Ruelas Project, with the participation of stage directors Juliana Fresler, Raquel Araujo and Sara Pinedo. There will also be a theatrical performance by the community of CEFERESO No 12.
